Looking at my undergrad (public flagship), average debt burden was about $25,000. And parents contribute a lot for at least a chunk of these kids.
That's a decent chunk of debt and just completely unnecessary in the richest most powerful nation on the planet. It's silly.

And, why should the schools be "more affordable"? Who is going to supplement them? The money to operate them has to come from somewhere. Taxpayers? Do you really want to take money from EVERYONE so that SOME can have a good education? So that people who don't need/want to go to college should pay for those who do?
