Oh I won't stop with the media. Look at how they cover Trump's every single word/movement but Bernie gives a great speech, a powerful one, and it gets nothing.
The media, like the GOP voters, is only attracted to candidates who shock, rage and incite--they reflect the populace that consumes and vice-versa.
Bernie acts like an adult, talks about serious things and not one person questions his honesty but they treat him like he's the Dem Ron Paul. Or backhand him as merely a "socialist" who's tilting windmills. The reason they love Hillary (well, love to air her) is she's their dream matchup for the WWE contest which we used to call an election. Because of her negatives (as you've noted) and the fact that she is rabidly hated by FOX Nation (like Obama, like her husband, like...)... let's get it on!
They're simply sports commentators at this point, hyping the Main Event which will allow them to stage an endless parade of splitscreen shills for both sides who will fight on-air for the rest of the year until either Trump wins and the country goes into a ditch or Hillary does but provides the walking dead with another four years to rage and obstruct which they will always do now when it's not a Party member in the White House.
And to your point, yeah, she's viewed as dishonest but Trump? A serial liar--almost daily. How is it that he's "Telling it like it is" and Hillary is a liar? Where do you think that comes from? (Besides my point that his crowd doesn't care if it's lies).
