There are certain, specific aspects of economic populism that I am ok with.

But Galt is right: populism on the whole is bad. It is typically a mix of anti-intellectualism, dumb economics, and bigotry. Trump is a populist on social issues, which is why his campaign is so racist and xenophobic. Populism and nativism often go hand in hand.

I agree with you, but when I'm using populism--and I'm probably using it wrong--I'm talking about "Dude who cares about expanding the middle class and lifting people out of poverty."

Perhaps there's a better term and I've been using the wrong one.

As opposed to what we have now, people who think the country is "exceptional" when it's super rich--but all that wealth is concentrated in the 1%.

Also, people who believe that gov't money which we provide is well-spent on us as well, providing things like infrastructure, health care and education. Because nowadays the Ayn Randers call that socialism and "entitlement." But have no problem shipping off a few trillion dollars to try and rebuild Iraq or Afghanistan under the guise of "defense"--and failing.
