age 57, apparently had a medical emergency a few days ago with severe flu. went on stage the next day but has since cancelled appearances. he died at his home 20 miles from here

I remember in 1979 or so seeing him and his band in trench coats with women's stockings and panties performing on one of those midnight special shows. It was scandalous at the time and got everyone's attention.
