i think someone who finished their junior year is someone who is described as "just finished their junior year in may" or conversely is "starting their senior year in the fall". that is to say, they are neither junior nor senior. they have finished being a junior, which allows them the option and ability to become a senior but are not yet a senior. i think this is applicable for all grades, and all things. the only reason why it is an apparent issue for schooling is that we have a summer break, but it would also show in between employment
