tbf, the wrights used a catapult, so there is some legitamacy to their claim. the problem is only brazil recognizes it as first flight (even if some originally recognized it, since they didn't believe the americans, and the brazillian flight was in europe for prize money). the wrights in 1905 had made a 40 minute flight, which i feel like should end all talk about it, but their landing system was skids (using a dolly on a track to take off) so the brazillians want their claim to fame, about their airplane that flew for like 20 seconds and crash landed repeatedly
