What's really sad in all this is that we are now going to see a significant shift in economic policy for the worse right as the benefits of the recovery have - finally - started trickling down to those who need it the most. Has an almost Shakespearean quality to it. Emotionally I want to tell these people to go f**k themselves because they've shot themselves in the foot with this last election, but clearly that's not fair to them or productive. It's still frustrating though.

Guess I'll just collect my tax cut and go about my business while their mistakes come back to haunt them.

Democrats won't be able to shed identity politics anytime soon. The people who were jubilantly spiking the football before the polls closed, who thought that identity politics would be the way forward for perpetual Democratic victory until the results came in, are doubling down on it right now. It's going to remain a big deal in the primaries. We're going to need candidates who can make that appeal, but not in a tonedeaf way that emphasizes it to the exclusion of economic issues.
