Wouldn't this wall have to maintained? Manned? Defended? History teaches us that walls are f**k stupid. There are pieces of the Berlin wall on display all over the world as a global tribute to the futility and stupidity of the whole idea. Even the fence we've already got is almost entirely pointless, and tremendously expensive to maintain. This is one thing Reagan was famously correct about.
And honestly, Trump's wall won't be an actual wall. Tremendous stretches of it would have to be a fence instead. Otherwise its entirely bonkers as opposed to merely stupid.

I'm ambivalent about the wall at this point. Build it. It'll be one hell of an expensive wall that Mexico won't pay for but at least we could get it behind us and expose its efficacy either way.
We've got bigger fish to fry now. DBCFT, infrastructure spending, weighing how one policy will affect another (especially as it relates to the value of the dollar), etc.
