If Assange was smart IMO he should go to Sweden, get tried and probably convicted, and spend 5-10 years in jail, out of the limelight, in the background, keep his mouth shut, and this should all blow over..

Because if he gets out of Britain, and gets to Ecuador, or where ever, he's a dead man.. 3,4,5 years from now one of the Intelligence Agencies, the Americans, Brits, Israelis, French, someone will get him.. There's nowhere he can hide.

Whilst i'm very sure the state and defence departments are rather upset with Mr Assange.

No one seems to be treating the claims of these two women with any serious validity. Which is what is demanded of them by law. Both Swedish, European and British. Nor is it upon him to dictate the policy of the Swedish crown prosecution office. Nor is it plausible that Sweden would publicly violate the ECHR as he seems to so often claim, even as the UK failed to do so and he failed to cry wolf about, until coincidentally he exhausted his final legal appeal in the UK. Then it was all fears for his human rights. Good job that great champion of civil liberty Rafael Correa came to the rescue or i'm sure it would have been room 101 and the rat helmet for Mr Assange without a second thought.

Even if he is this great hero of freedom of information, journalism and such. He is but one man and not above the law as many of his supporters seem to think of him as.

Also let me remind you, this would not be the time a popularist whipped up a mob in his own defence. If assange was just a servant of the people of the world toiling away in silence I would think far more of him. On the contrary the man has always sought fame. Students of history should see worry there.

Seems like a stitch-up to me. Would the UK government really threaten to enter an embassy like that just to arrest someone wanted for questioning about a sexual assault?

Perhaps it should be informative to consider a quick exercise in hypothetical thought, shall we?

If you were a man, and you had been (for the sake of argument) falsely accused of sexual assault. Which countries would you have more faith in having a fair and free trial than Sweden?
