You guys need to restore federalism and start building regional alliances that cooperate on multi-state ventures. You aren't going to have much luck working with the federal government when like 35% of the country would actively commit treason against that government when given the chance. Reduce the scope of the federal government to handle foreign affairs and then delegate most issues such as education, healthcare, policing, etc. to each state.
I think the sane parts of your country would thrive, while the insane parts would destroy themselves and either learn or suffer.
