wildfires, like, hurricanes, are natural occurrences. in the case of montana, it's from decades of combating wildfires so nothing burns that they become out of control. responsible management includes letting things burn. sure it might be a bit out of control right now in a few places but it's not like fort mcmurray.

the biggest wildfire in montana is almost 100,000 acres and it is 100% contained ( https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5573/ ), and rice ridge at 100,000 ( https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5414/ ) although that is not contained. ft. mcmurray was 1.5 million acres. call back when you have a real problem k thnx

now LA has a wildfire problem. instead of being thousands of acres of wilderness that should burn every so often, this is like, next to the city

Yesterday and today was my 1st real dip into the worst hit areas in Houston. First I'll say the city is definitely a seasoned region in regards to flooding/hurricanes and the Texas invincibility is strong in the people.

That said, it's really bad, and is definitely under reported, even for the darkest reports. I'm not sure what the official numbers are, or if the excitement of the times is playing into it, but it seems like everyone knows someone who's dead or missing. I strongly believe some of the recovery is going to linger for a long time due to the efficiency of the local governments (ie: beltway 8).
