Really, the rank and file simply don't believe any of it. It's not that it's not a big deal, or they can't do anything about it...it's that they simply don't believe its actually happened. They've been effectively sequestered. Our tolerance threshold for presidential buffoonery has been raised so high that it's really kind of hard to imagine what it would actually take to get anyone really upset anymore. I mean...they're upset that it's being reported. Not that it happened. Because they don't believe it.
I can't even imagine what would have happened to Obama had he done anything like any of this. There are at least 3 dozen things that trump has simply called "fake news" and been magically expunged of that would have resulted in Obama resigning or being impeached. With malice and velocity.
