Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi

Have you ever noticed that when people are in on something from the start, they become extremely resistant to change, and typically view newer material as inferior? I see this all the time with entertainment - music, video games, movies, etc.

The old Star Wars movies are shit. I love them to death. I was raised on them. But they are shit. The dialogue is terrible, the acting is terrible, the script is basically swiss cheese. When I was a kid, I didn't notice that stuff, of course, but that is because I was so engrossed in the world.

I would bet what you are really longing for is the sense of fascination and wonder you got with the old films - and when that is your perspective, you are doomed to disappointment. If you approach it as you would any other movie, without that hype and without that expectation, you are far more likely to say "Yeah, that was decent. Not great, but decent."

It sounds like they are taking some radically different directions for things in this movie. Which will of course piss off those who hate change and want the canon rigidly adhered to.

Eh. I watched the first trailer and have seen nothing else. I'm going into it blind, trying to keep the hype down.

Things I DON'T want:

1. 60-something year old Luke Skywalker to be turned into an uncanny CGI cartoon so he can have a 10 minute light saber fight while doing backflips off walls or whatever. I don't need Luke to even fight anything at all. Just be the old wise Jedi who's pissed off because everything went to shit. I'm fine with that.

2. Don't start making supporting characters Jedi, magically. I don't want Poe or Finn to suddenly turn into Jedi or Sith and start doing CGI backflips off of walls. The Jedi/Sith are cool because of their rarity. If everyone is a Jedi, who cares?

3. I don't care about Phasma. Stop trying to make Phasma a thing.

4. Please don't make Rey a Skywalker. That's lazy.

5. I realize you have to kill Leia off screen somehow...but find a way to make it count.

I got some sweet $8 tickets so I'm going Saturday morning with my woman.

Reserved seats are just amazing. You don't need to wait in line, you don't have to show up insanely early and wait, you can just go when you feel like it and the seats will be there.

Why did it take them this long to do this?

Reserved seats are especially good if you smoke before. Now I don't have to wait in line an hour with my buzz subsiding to get good seats. I can finish off the j at 705 and be in my front and center seat by 710.

Truly revolutionary.

Oh but anecdote - this girl I knew in NYC claimed to have f**k Leo DiCaprio (as an side if every girl I've met who claims to have f**k him really did then he's a busy guy). But anyway she said she was riding him and he just put his head back, closed his eyes, put on some beats headphones and hit his pax while she was working.

What a f**k life huh?
