we won't be swapping pakistan for india. india is a rising world power and doesn't need anything we give it, nor are we bound with them like we are with the major NATO countries in any kind of massive treaty. we're a convenience that can be dropped when it pleases them. our soft power over pakistan is much stronger and if we intend on having any kind of presence in afghanistan we need them to play nice. also they're batshit insane and unstable and their nuclear doctrine is more likely to start a war than north korea.
