Well, Trump has lowered the bar so far that it's pretty easy to see other people as more qualified/preferable. Not saying I like the idea of Oprah or celebrity culture but it is what it is.

Part of me would giggle to see an Oprah Presidency. I don't think the conservatives could handle it. Hell they barely made it through Obama without going completely nutso. I still have to laugh at people that say Obama was the worst (and most corrupt) president in history. I ask them other than the ACA what they didn't like and get ZERO examples. My coworkers still love to brag about Trump on a near daily basis. I was laughing due to their hypocrisy this morning. "Could you imagine some rich celebrity being president?"

They thought I was laughing with them on that comment.

Somehow, one way or the other, for much of our republic's history we've had serious, studied, and focused men leading the way (handful of women but let's be honest here).

I don't know why I didn't see it at the time but the violation of this norm may be the worst enduring consequence of Donalds presidency. We have a chance in 2020 to elect a person of substance, but if we instead end up with a reality tv star versus a talk show host we are truly and irreversibly doomed.

Interestingly, one of the last true statesman and patriots (and also blithering fool), John McCain, is indirectly responsible for all of this by selecting Palin. An irony of history that a consummate old school pro like McCain would be the harbinger.

tbf, palin actually held a governmental executive office job before selection. she became 'celebrity' such that she is because of McCain's selection

On the policy front I think Oprah is more exposed. She's expressed optimism for homeopathic remedies and has associated herself with other people on air whom implicitly suggest a level of knowledge of a given subject matter but whom actually have limited understanding or one that is more tailored towards their own interests (Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, etc). And for future reference - Bill Kristol enthusiastically welcomed Oprah to the fray by pointing at her support for the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

I don't think she could beat Trump.
