Honestly, if one of my buddies were to say something like this, I wouldn't even think about it. It just isn't that far off the mark to call Honduras or Haiti a shithole. I understand it may be offensive to them, just like if you were to call my first apartment a shithole, but it is honestly kind of truthful.

That said, it probably isn't a good idea for a sitting President to insult the home country of hundreds of thousands to millions of Americans, in front of various Congressmen.

Yeah, I mean it's funny that he said it and that we can all point at him and be like "dude you're a public figure representing the US you should maybe control yourself around your peers since they leak everything" but substantively...what's changed? TPS for the El Salvadorians is still expiring, ICE just raided over 100 7-11's (lolololololol), DACA continues to be unresolved, and the wall continues on only in the hypothetical.

Him saying this is getting more press than the actual policies being affected. It's f**k dumb.

Yea this seems odd, these countries are by and large shitholes. Some shouldn't be lumped with others, Botswana or Seychelles etc are nice, but lets be honest everyone says this. That's the entire reason people want to leave these countries. Not many people immigrating from USA to Haiti. It's wrong to prefer Norwegians to haitians all other things equal, but all other things are not equal so its fair to ask why we would take six uneducated relatives from Somali when we could have engineers from Norway, India or Chile.

Although if you hear what other senators are saying about his comments, it wasn't a one off comment. Apparently he said "Do we really need any more Haitians?" and called African countries shitholes several times. While perhaps true in many instances, that's unnecessary and beyond unpresidential.
