yeah i have to agree with exploited. it will be private startups that show what is feasible and how to do it but the funding will have to come from governments. the only thing private entities will clean up is use those bins in marinas or whatever (but they are currently super loud and no one wants them near their yachts... they'd rather have trash)

I would love to hear an explanation of market factors driving a private market participant to expend significant resources on cleaning commons though.

what is significant? The Ocean Cleanup raised 22 million dollars between Nov 2016 and May 2017 to start trials in the pacific. they aren't trying to make money, they are trying to make the world a better place
