and before you whine further about oh no we are bullying allies, let me clarify. We need the EU to stand up and be counted, with respect to trade and defence. We are natural allies and that is never in question - the issue is they are a f**k useless ally because they cant defend themselves and have shown no willingness or ability to stand up to china. What we really need to do is make europe wake up. We don't need to boss them around in NATO, we need them to have their own independent fighting force that can protect itself - ideologically we will always be on their side because we are both liberal open capitalist regimes. EU getting stronger only adds a strong ally to our roster, instead of the do nothings allies we have now. The same goes for trade. We need the US to review foreign investments - this will hammer china much more than us. we need them to throw up tariffs, once the walls are up we can negotiate bilateral access in a manner than locks out china. We are obviously on the same side and obviously allies, the issue is the EU pulling its weight. We need a stronger EU ally, and to do that we need to push them. That is what I mean re forcing the EU to act. No one is trying to force them into vassal state status or anything, the exact opposite in fact.
