And if you think this is all some post hoc justification I suggest you read mearsheimer. It’s been obvious since the early 1990s who the real strategic threat to America is. Not once have we had a president who has correctly placed American focus where it is due: on China. Good policy bad policy, crude guy or classy guy, doesn’t really matter because Trump is the only one even looking in the right direction. You don’t seem to realise it but the 8 years under Obama and the 8 years under bush represent the biggest decline in American relative power and influence in our history.

china is ascendant this is true. but we should be rallying our allies that we have built up since the last world war and turn their focus all together on the common foe. instead the state department is in the worst shape its ever been. we can't rely on military might -- we would win, but it would be costly, very very costly. we need to use diplomacy and need to focus on that. TPP, TPIP... these things should move our allies closer to us and farther from china
