This seems dumb for the house of Saud as well. They're dealing with a large debt burden, attempting to create a more adaptive economy, and likely want to encourage foreign investment. This would seem to run counter to that very idea...

They probably feel emboldened because they know Trump and his admin won't do shit about it. It's ok though, it's not like Canada is one of our largest trading partners.

Yea these guys are almost comical at this point (ALMOST, they still beheaded and crucified some Malaysian bro in Mecca the other day). Not really sure what the plan is here but I feel like there must be something more to this, no f**k country could be this petty and dumb. They are even ordering all students and medical patients etc to leave Canada. I agree Canada should double down, if only because the saudis have blown their entire wad already and can’t really do much further aside from...”sending the ambassador home on a plane” or whatever euphemism they are using these days.

Trump won’t do anything but the Europeans should also not bitch out and uniformly reiterate the Canadian position. Let’s see if the saudis want to double down after all EU 27 punk then. But again euros are feckless so won’t happen.

Hopefully they are the ones funding Elon’s 70b LBO of Tesla. They are dumb money and will lose it all, quickly, inshallah.

ForPolCan already reiterated the message. Next step is expelling Saudi diplomats from the country. After that, the government should seek to permanently end all oil imports from Saudi Arabia, tear up the LAV agreement, and put permanent limits on Saudi travel to and through Canada. And if they do anything whatsoever to interfere with our internal processes, well, things will have to escalate accordingly. We get 10% of our oil from them and so long as we work quickly to replace that, whether internally or through other sources, we'll be fine.

My other expectation is that the rest of the Western world shows some nuts on this issue. Shameful to see the EU have nothing to say on the matter... As for the US, I just don't see there being any support from the current administration. That is too bad.

yes it is unfortunate. theoretically a US admin could put the screws to them. but we haven't.

however, trump DID blame saudis for 9/11 in years past, many times, and said he would stop imports of oil from saudi arabia if ever needed to. but he's gone against all of that rhetoric. hell, trump attacked clinton for accepting saudi money, saying that these people "push gays off of buildings" and stuff and shouldn't be connected to such "horrible people". he was ACTUALLY RIGHT about something but has since gone back on it
