So you perceive investing in successful businesses as inane?
Sigmund Freud defined four parts of a psyche; the id, the ego, the superego and the stratego. The Stratego being the highest form of morality and scientific thinking.

When they're doing this they're not investing in a failing company. They're investing in a new company using the assets from the failing company.

Not if they are taking a control position to restructure the existing corp, as so often happens.
