Again. The fact that you think charity disposes you towards one or the other means that you don't know what either of them means. Charity is irrelevant. So is pounding a passive aggressive sign into someone's yard like a sniveling coward.
Conservatives also seem to think they have some sort of bizarro claim on patriotism or religion. Which is completely bonkers, as the US is a liberal democracy, founded by liberals on liberal principals, and the freedom of religion is one of the many basic tenets of liberalism.
But here we are anyways. I can save you some wordy copy pasta:
Conservatism: The desire to maintain the status quo...or worse, to backslide to the status quo ante. That's pretty much it, because it supersedes merely American politics and context. It's a basic facet of human behavior. Basically...conservatism is a deep fear of change, and a lack of the confidence to deal with the change. It's why conservatives have had to be drug through history kicking and screaming, giving up their worship of sun gods and human sacrifice, giving up their belief that the Earth is the center of the universe because God says so, giving up their groveling on bent knees to kings and queens, giving up their slaves, giving up their racially segregated drinking fountains etc etc, over and over again. Right now you're all flipping out because that tiny minority of the world's population who are white and male and protestant and straight no longer get to utterly dominate everything and you might have to see women make out with each other on HBO or female Ghostbusters. I say bring it. I want the world to change. I want to see us keep developing. I want to look over my shoulder and see conservatives still stumbling and howling as they get dragged around in my dust. Because as long as you guys are stumbling along back there, impotently lashing out and trying to slash the tires...I know we're getting somewhere. When you guys are happy and content...we're stagnating.
Neither philosophy has to be implicitly bad. Where they each get dangerous is when people start demanding ideological purity. That's when people like you start saying things like "real conservative" or "Republican in name only"...or do something insane like vote in a trump instead of a Kasich. Or when liberals start attacking their own moderates because they don't agree in radical nonsense. It's all the same, through a mirror darkly.
