I want to say something to the people in this community like Kane and Spider who treat Trump like some grotesque aberration from a GOP that would exist with some sense of decency and moral principles if not for Trump's highjacking of the party:
All it would take to end this whole disgusting saga is for 2 GOP Senators to say "We like Kavanaugh's judicial record and credentials, but between the questions about his past and the type of temperament he displayed before the judiciary committee, we think there's surely a better person for this important lifetime position. Let's move on from him and find a more suitable conservative judge to elevate to the Supreme Court."
There are dozens upon dozens of other judges who have credentials just as good and philosophies just as conservative as Kavanaugh. Even if Republican Senators are fixated on the goal of finally getting an ultra-conservative SCOTUS majority, Kavanaugh is in no way uniquely qualified to be the guy they get it with. Yet still, we've gone all this way and there are not even two Republicans Senators willing to stand up and say "Time to find someone else".
Maybe part of the reason why is that the Republicans in the Senate who have a less-than-warm relationship with Trump had another, more "civil" and "classy" GOP leader reaching out to lobby them in support of Kavanaugh: George W. Bush. You know, the guy elected President as a Republican a full 16 years prior to Trump. Kavanaugh worked for the Bush Admin and old W, often cited as a "Resistance" hero in the Trump era, was more than eager to help this monster shore up votes for his confirmation. Bush may have had a certain folksy charm that Trump lacks, but when it came to the kind of people he surrounded himself with as President, he had no problem with low-character criminals. And consequences or accountability for one's past actions was a foreign concept to the Bush Administration, so why start now with Judge Kavanaugh?
And to all the liberals who threw a hissy fit when I had no words of admiration or respect for the late Senator John McCain -- you better believe he wouldn't even need to be lobbied by Bush or anyone else. If McCain were able to vote on Kavanaugh, he'd be a sure-thing Yes vote.
Donald Trump is not some horrible and unique mutation of the GOP. He is nothing but an unpolished and unmasked depiction of what the Republican Party already was before his ascent. If it somehow wasn't already clear for you, it should be now. So keep this in mind the next time you see a Republican politician showcasing a performative display of civility or offering a feeble and half-hearted criticism of Trump's decorum: They want the same things that Trump wants; they just don't want him to be so tactless about it.
go ahead. keep screaming "Shut The f**k Up " at me. it only makes my opinions Worse
