GM is working on a revamped line of electric automobiles better suited for sale in China (and globally).

They're looking to the future in the largest market available to them. They'll just have to hope they're still welcome.

GM has a pretty decent EV right now in the Bolt. It compares very well with the Model 3 for less money, and is likely a better car overall, with the GM infrastructure behind it. But nobody cares. Nobody is buying. Tesla is the brand for electric.

Tesla has a very unearned reputation. EV's are still outrageously expensive, and for that premium price do people want to buy the cachet that comes with Tesla...or buy a Chevy?

This is a brand problem. Maybe they Chinese like the Chevrolet brand better than we apparently do.

As a big fan of subcompact and compact cars, I fear for the future.

A VW Golf (preferably GTI) powered by battery would decimate the hatch market. Especially if they get the charge time down (to 5 mins max) and get more range out of the batteries (Let's at least get 500 miles on one charge). VW must be pushing so hard on that right now.

That’s an interesting bargaining chip to acquire for trade negotiations...surely this will end well...
