Newt actually sonned himself into oblivion in the shutdown during Clinton’s presidency. Republicans were on the road to turning public blame toward Clinton, but then he whined about having to exit Air Force One through the back door instead of the front and basically admitted that negotiations were stalled cause he was mad about that. Then everyone blamed Congress and not the President for the impasse.

Newt did also get a lot of legislative wins while serving as speaker during Clinton’s presidency, but that’s just cause Clinton was a pretty right wing Democrat who also supported those things.

i didn't realize that Trump Hotel in DC was part of a national park (former US post office, leased to Trump). the lease says it can't be leased to elected officials, but besides that... 3 park rangers work there, as part of it is overseen by the national park service, and while it was shut from Dec 22 - Jan 3, it is now the only national park site open. well thank god guests at the trump hotel in DC paying trump money can still go up to the clock tower if they want
