What makes you say the Dems have more to lose than Trump? Do you mean politically? If so, you're wrong per the polling data to date.
Dems have a lot to use on accepting Trump's proposal, both in policy terms (the minutia of his proposal on policy goes against Dem positions) and in terms of leverage for future fights.

The cost to Trump of caving is large, and the cost of not caving is significant. He has backed himself into a corner with two poor options, and you think Dems should drop down a ladder for him and save him. I am less generous.
I've read the same studies. We will see if they bear out (but this cuts against your argument of this blowing up in Dems' faces politically by the way - you can't have it both ways amigo).
And in any event, in the meantime the GOP controls 2.5 branches of government and can get f**k done. That's a win by itself.
