Let the centrists and policy-wonks figure out a coherent plan. Her job is to push the party left, and to propose the big ideas that the "Clinton Democrats" have been cowed out of proposing since... 1993?

well the resolution doesn't go into specifics, nor should it, but it does say some pretty wild and completely unrealistic things, like, for example, rebuilding "all buildings" in america. not only is this a waste of resources and would probably cause more climate damage (all that concrete and wood and steel), it also would make so many people mad. not to mention it violates all sorts of laws about preservation of historical places. all she needed to do was take the word "all" out. it allows centrists and policy wonks to work out what that means. we need to rebuild schools here in Minnesota to be better energy efficient, and also have cooling. many schools don't have AC because we don't have school in the summer, but as world warms it gets warmer earlier. that's something that fits, but rebuilding a 50 year old cabin that is open for seasonal use and has a wood burning stove to cook with? no. go f**k yourself

While she’s got a long way to go on this proposal, I’m just f**k glad someone is finally talking about it within our government.

The energy lobbies have a stranglehold on both parties and very little progress is being made, in fact, we’ve been going backwards.

Spacemonkey's posts are interesting because they provide insight on how the common man looks at news events, which is important to understand.

AOC's proposal to develop infrastructure to a point that air travel becomes obsolete is being repackaged in conservative media and fed to people like spacemonkey as AOC wanting to ban air travel. So just like that, a theme conservatives were quite hot about not so long ago (infrastructure development) is now a major negative when proposed by a Democrat because of reframing the issue for people with very low IQs in a way to manipulate their perception.

There is really no effective way to combat this sort of callous disregard for the truth shown by the right, and indeed we are increasingly seeing this develop on the left as well. As the national conversation continues to decline as a result of this, we are going to be stuck in a feedback loop of ever more dishonest, disingenuous, or genuinely unintelligent representatives feeding misinformation to an ever more credulous population.

This is why, long term, I don't see much chance of survival for representative government. It's simply too susceptible to manipulation. We just have to hope our plutocratic future leaders are benevolent, which has not been the case so far.
