My anxiety levels are at an all time high.
Being in a fairly conservative area and having heavily conservative family, it is clear that war is wanted. I have heard at work how all the damn liberals just need to be shot. My 90+ yr old grandfather calling out for violence against the left while praying for peace in the country. My aunts and uncles saying how tired they are of hearing how "Black Lives Matter" while being completely ignorant to the irony of their comments. My cousins mostly agreeing. My dad telling me how Obama founded al-Qaeda and parrots everything Trump says as though it is all just facts that we need to accept.
I'm curious how split opinion families made it during the Civil Rights Era. Did they just disown? Did they try to educate/explain? Did they avoid such topics all together?
I really have no problem cutting out all of the family in my life, even my parents if need be, but my bigger concern is that of living in the New Iran in a few months. Trump declaring some kind of unconstitutional martial law and the Republicans backing him 100%. Cancellation or just complete fabrication of the 2020 election.
Nothing is out of reach at this point because there are no more checks and balances. The system is completely broken.
I'd like to say I have hope left but I don't think I've had any since the 2016 election.
edit: marshall law to martial law. derp
