hundreds of thousands of white men died so that black men would be free. i do not accept reparations; we already paid the price. the south has been, since the war, a place of poverty for both white and black. since the whites have nothing to be proud of, they look to that one shining moment when they stood up to the rest of the country. they go on about their heritage because of this, because they have literally nothing else to be proud of.
the solution isn't reparations. the solution is more along the lines of guaranteed income. it's not a white/black thing. it's a poor/rich thing. sure, this may help blacks in greater numbers, but reparations is just a way to foster resentment and stoke racial hatred. it's not the correct path.
Americans learn only from catastrophe and not from experience. -- Theodore Roosevelt
My life has become a single, ongoing revelation that I haven’t been cynical enough.
