New PC

Well folks, I put together a new PC awhile back. Specs:

Rog Strix B-550F motherboard
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
1TB Samsung SSD
4TB HDD
32 GB DDR4
Gigabyte 3060 12GB GPU
Dual Lenovo 2K monitors
Steelseries mouse and mechanical keyboard
New UPS so it gets nice clean power

Pretty sexy machine. I didn't make the jump to 4K or 144Hz because, eh, I don't really care that much. This is great for gaming. The GPU was a rip-off as I paid 2x MSRP but that's to be expected these days. Also here is a meme:



I didn't hook up any of the RGB, so it doesn't glow like shit. What are you guys rocking these days?

Yeah I've always been partial to intel on the CPU front. I've checked out a couple reviews from anandtech and tomshardware regarding intel vs amd sweet spot so that seemed acceptable to me. I do miss me some HardOCP but he's since been gainfully employed at intel (I think). There's always PCMag and PCGamer but these days seems the review websites are increasingly less authentic and more commercial in nature.

I wish rtings.com would take up computer component reviews.

Built it in 2016 and the thread is still there. Josh appears to have been quite helpful. For the record, I did not actually beat comrade to death with a shovel, I got back almost £100 in VAT when I left the UK and I never did put a GFX card in, still crushes CS:Go and all my plex/server/networking stuff. Gonna throw another 8TB in it soon I think. Question - I built this thing in England, use a converter to power it. Can I just swap PSU's with USA PSU and it will work fine without a converter? Can I just swap the cords going into the PSU? Not a big deal and I've never tried it cause I don't want to fry THE RIGG

Kane your riigg looks similar to THE RIGG so that's probably a solid set up. Who knows what the Canadian is doing, no specific specs (4tb HDD durrr post the SKU clown!) and no price list which is like why bother. I too can spend 5k on a 2k RiGg.

You can swap PSUs with no problem.

Genuinely curious why you would bother building that at all, since you don't have a GPU and everything you've described using it for could be done with a standard prebuild for half of what you spent on it. You appear to have bought a Porsche with half the cylinders filled with cement, in order to drive around a go-kart track.

Actually now that I'm thinking been meaning to add a new HDD, so should do RAM and maybe GFX at the same time. Not spending 1k on a card thats stupid, maybe a GeForce RTX 3060. Kane what are you thinking? Can I stick two 16 sticks along side the two 8s? Not a scientist.
