Seriously that ship looks like something I folded in 2nd grade.
Sigmund Freud defined four parts of a psyche; the id, the ego, the superego and the stratego. The Stratego being the highest form of morality and scientific thinking.

We do not need a Marine core at all. The US army trains them in every thing special they do (airborne school for example). The size of the standing army needs to be drastically reduced, but the capacity to equip an army maintained. There simply is no reason to have a marine corp. We don't do amphibious assaults. We gain air superiority, then we send special forces to take an airfield, then we land troops there, then it's GG.
The marine core needs to be shrunk if it can't be outright removed. We need a strong navy and strong air force to defend ourselves and power project. We don't need boots on the ground.
