Yeah but since we can print our own money, the notion of a balanced budget isn't necessary. A nation gov't budget isn't like a household budget and shouldn't be compared.

I don't see how morals come into play with a budget.

The Dude is right. The federal government's budget is not like someone's personal budget. They can print their own money. They can borrow money and issue debt at a much cheaper rate. But the "treat it like a family budget!!!" meme is very stupid so naturally it's also very popular and embraced by both parties at this point as anti-intellectualism runs rampant.

Good rule of thumb: anyone pitching "common sense solutions" that involve approaching major complex policy issues in the same manner that "you and your family!" approach mundane challenges in everyday life....is pitching some stupid bullshit
