I will pick it up, since to me, the psychology of being a warrior is as interesting as small unit tactics. I've thought about this stuff alot, and was always obsessed with SWAT and special forces when I was young (I used to maintain a website called Covert Operations haha). Which is kind of funny considering how opposed I am to most military actions. If it wasn't for my wife, I would have joined the military a long time ago, but she is very, very opposed to the idea.
And I'm really sorry to hear that about your friend, sounds like he was a very good man.

I prefer some modern day analysis too. I read Thucydides a few years back on the Peloponesian War but I also read up on some newer accounts.
