I just scored a pretty cool Tumi raincoat (didn't realize they made clothing), and had no idea it had this built-in pack-away pouch for travel. Bonus.

People seem to be getting style and fashion confused.
fashion is temporary, style is permanent. Some clothes (jeans, suits, leather jackets, etc) will never go out of fashion; I'd put peacoats in the style box.

I wear a North Face jacket because I am a backpacker and I've used their jackets for years and years. Only once has someone made a snide remark about me wearing North Face. I had some copies of my Backpacker magazine and pulled one out to read and the comments stopped. I've also had a sub to backpacker since like 2002.

North face jackets are extremely common over here, the only trend I can really see is if you walked into a mountaineering/hiking store and asked 'yeah i'm looking for a good quality waterproof jacket what you got' that has a good markup for the store, thats probs the one you'd be hit with.

i actually agree with horse about peacoats. what i thought was a peacoat of mine was actually a half-trench which looks fabulous.
