Well, it would have been rather more dramatic had the explosion happened than the underwear bomber. Watch the video, the houses of parliament would have been utterly destroyed.
And we do tend to celebrate defeating those who pose a threat to our way of life.

Well, he was hanged, drawn and quatered, so I think the holiday is more for the victors than the terrorist.
