What will Obama do the next 4 years?

Well thats another interesting thing. Is your system as a whole capable of dealing with that? The u.s system is in the face of difficult social and economic issues, either designed to be deadlocked or a lot of people get left out in the cold of effective federal legislature.

Last time a 'progressive' (I don't agree with that term but for the sake of keeping things simple) agenda was in the ascendency, certain people decided the union might not be for them.

Also one party to rule them all, where every ambitious person has to wait in a line, the average waiting time for which might be longer than the average human lifespan. That might not last forever.

Or to put it another way, this didn't make all the gay hating, they took our jerbs and think of the children crowd go away. It just pushed them a little further out into the cold.

Not sure what you're really talking about Boris. The last major progressive shift was an economic one with FDR. Obama is nowhere near as progressive as FDR or LBJ on economic matters, though I think politics in generalis really becoming rapidly more progressive on the social end. It really concerns me where we are going with economic policy though.

There's a cultural divide, but I mean bigots will be bigots. We've got the same kind of history with civil rights and black people. It probably never completely goes away but in time it becomes so socially unacceptable that people at least keep it to themselves.

I think the first thing he's going to do is some sort of grand bargain, similar to Simpson-Bowles. It probably won't even be very liberal, so a lot of Democrats are going to be pissed.

After that he's definitely going to do Immigration reform. Republicans just lost huge with latinos, so they aren't going to want to stand in the way of that one.

And he'll appoint 2+ supreme court judges.

Other than that, I think he'll have a relatively quiet second term, with the economy gradually improving, and the war in Afghanistan ending as planned.
