A framework of competition allows for the existence of cooperation, whereas a framework of cooperation does not allow competition.
When talking about how economies should be organized, it is best to allow people of all inclinations and personalities to have something that interests them. Harmony and buttercups is all well and good, until it falls into the same trap capitalism has - namely, being built up to prefer manic growth, consumerism, etc. at the cost of all other things. In your case, it would be harmony over creativity and the drive to do better for yourself, and not society as a whole. We need a system that accommodates both.
