nope, at least not at first. I am a petty, petty man and the planter class had it very, very good.
although I would institute a "profit sharing" scheme and pay them. I'd also educate them and teach them skills, set up some businesses based on those skills; whiskey distilling, cigar rolling, etc. since we'd all be making money abolition by attrition would take place...after they were free if they wanted to stay on as a partner I'd be down with that.
now, since I'm the wealthiest dude in Mississippi I use my position of power to become Speaker of the State Senate, and use my great authoriti to encourage the other big planters to do the same. I try to make profit sharing fashionable. I pay English and Virginian scholars to write about the virtues of profit sharing.
strict policy though...I never hump my slaves or split up families. I'd bang all the Scotch-Irish poon I could though.
