I do not think Petraeus was necessarily 'the shit' (the surge was overrated, T.E Lawrence will agree with me), but he's earned his wings by this point. Had he massacred 50 children in Beirut, maybe resignation time time. Not being able to keep his rooster in his pants, seems irrelevant.

Adultery is a violation of the UCMJ. If you can't remain faithful to your own family how come you be trusted to remain faithful to your country?

He is right to resign. He was supposed to be an officer and a gentleman. It's that or a dishonourable discharge. He could even get a year imprisonment for it.

Being a general is a little different from what you do, BoJo. They are rightly held to higher standards than we are in general society. Petreaus knows this and that's why he resigned.

In a way resigning was the honourable thing to do. Taking the honourable way out, so to speak.
