Thing is that less that way, way less than 1% of businesses are going to luck out and go big.

Being small is not any sort of defect, failure, floundering, etc. Not at all.

If you set out to expand, and wind up losing your shirt and going under, that's one thing. But if being a community restaurant or tire store or whatever is what you've set out to do, then accomplishing that and running a successful business is not in any way a failure.

In economic terms yes it is defective as it is less useful than the corporations. I personally believe people who lack either ambition or talent are also defective but that's a matter of opinion.

In any event, our policies should be oriented toward ruthlessly destroying the inefficient, nurturing the adept to ensure the talented few dont stay small and useless for long, and ensuring that large corporations remain large and strong.

Artisans are excepted, although the restaurants talented chefs work at would almost invariably not be considered small businesses.
