Ok so I went and saw Skyfall late monday night. first of all - i am a big fan of the past two daniel craig bonds and i think most of the other ones are either too corny (pierce brosnan) or just from an era that i really dont enjoy (every other one except maybe one or two sean connery ones). kinda the way i only like the past three batman movies but none of the predecessors. also - its rare that i get excited about a movie coming out these days but ever since i saw the trailer for this one i was pumped - it looked like everything i was hoping for

...and for the first hour and a half i was thoroughly enjoying myself. exotic locations, awesome chase scenes, impeccable suits, attractive women, etc.

but then it began to unravel.

one - what the hell was the point of the villain plotting to get himself captured - only to escape again - and then go chase M and Bond again anyway?
two - why the hell did bond and M go off to the abandoned mansion - by themselves - bringing no guns or explosives - and not telling MI6 to be on the ready to send backup
three - i think another poster made this point already, but seriously, at this point it went into total "home alone" mode which i thought was completely out of character for the previous 2.5 entries in this franchise and a total disappointment. after they put together their homemade bombs and booby traps i almost expected them to sit down and eat mac n cheese while waiting for the bad guys to come down the driveway.

now i am willing to suspend disbelief when going to the movies and rarely deduct points for minor plot inconsistencies or gaps and things like that. especially for a franchise i actually like. but as soon as they drove off to that mansion i started shaking my head. it felt totally wrong and i could not enjoy any of the remainder of the movie.

all in all - the first hour and a half of that was awesome. the last ~45 minutes was a total farce and left a bad taste in my mouth. they say daniel craig is already complaining about being under contract to do two more of these. if they are anything like the end of skyfall then i say dont bother.

Okay, saw it.

Thoughts:

1. Cinematography was amazing. Visually, this film is a masterpiece.

2. Amazing references that were suitably subtle - gave it the "for your eyes only, James Bond fan" feel.

3. Only a few WTF moments. I felt the movie could have been fifteen to thirty minutes shorter.

4. Didn't like the new Q, but their is a good chance I will never like another Q... ever.

5. Fantastic choice for the new M.

6. I thought the plot was good, but could have used some work. I mean the whole "Here is a list of all the undercover agents" is retarded. No such list would ever exist, for obvious reasons. That being said, I didn't think it was too bad. Exciting. I really liked the moral dilemmas that are looked at in the film.

7. Daniel Craig was fantastic - however, he still didn't get the James Bond feel just right. Given another movie with this solid of cinematography and plot, I think he might have it. Still one of my favourite Bonds though.

8. Over all, I'd give it an 8/10, 9/10 in theater.
