48fps vs 24fps vs IMAX vs 2D vs 3D

WHAT SHOULD I SEE THE HOBBIT IN

this is serious

some say the 48 fps makes it more immersive. others say it makes it look like you're seeing a set. like it looks like a set and it's terrible.

it will only be released in 48fps in 3D... jackson says that it eliminates the strain that your eyes get from 3D. i can see that as being possible and willing to give it a try (i have not found 3D enjoyable to date)

the hitch is my IMAX which is like 5 miles from my house won't have it in 48fps. so i have to go find one of 5 theaters in the cities that has 48fps capability + 3d capability. i kinda want to see it just so i can look at the differences

also important to note is that 9 minutes of Star Trek into Darkness will be shown before The Hobbit in IMAX

this question is important. there's a lot of variables. seeing it in IMAX and 48fps in 3D and regualr is an option as well. but that's like 100 bucks isn't it. f**k movies, so expensive

IMAX if it has new star trek movie stuff in it. better sound system usually at the imax theatres anyways.

Star Trek into Darkness is gonna be amazing as well. the regular screenings will have the trailer for Star Trek in it, but not a 9 minutes helping of it

I'm a 24 FPS purist. Doubling the framerate just doubles the amount of info on the screen and sharpens every detail and motion to the point where it plunges directly into the darkest depths of the Uncanny Valley. Not a happy place, as Jackson found out after that test screening a few months back.

My TV has a post processing feature that ups the framerate...god I hate it so much. Never turn it on.

I'll be seeing this thing at 24 FPS and no 3D. 24 FPS is the correct cinematic speed.

Imax on the other hand is great. I'd love to see everything filmed on such a large format. Same for 4K cameras.

As for the topic, I will wait for some reviews on what people are saying for the movie itself. Chances are I'll go see it in IMAX 3d unless its bad.

I saw Avatar on real 3d (or wtvr its called) and Prometheus in IMAX 3d (though it wasn't shot for IMAX). I thought Prometheus 3d was a better experience, but it could have been because on Avatar the 3d was all LOOK AT ME. LOVE ME. JUST LOOK AT ME while on Prometheus it was just in the background. I hated the 3d of Avatar but I also hated everything else about it...

well it's in 3D in 48fps in some theaters but not in IMAX 3D in 48fps. and it's a real imax theater

the frame rate is the one thing that's really different about the movie and i kinda want to know what all the fuss is about
