well africa is the new asia and is expected to grow by like two billion people in the next 50 years. we'll start to see what it's like when an entire new continent joins the consumerist world in our life time probably.

Which is really the same thing. Either we seriously scale back our lifestyles, or we have to find 5 or 6 new Earths to spread out onto.
Or, the entire developing world can go back to subsistence farming and 40 year life expectancies and stay that way.
Things were so much simpler before oil and vaccination/antibiotics....

i mean, honestly, what's wrong with one child? or two, tops?
why do poor countries still insist on having 9 kids. most of these people don't even have farms any longer so there's no excuse.
