I'm afraid im going to have to agree with Dy-Lan here. After undergrad there is no way you get away with shit like that. I've been lit up once or twice by the red pen for f**k around like i was writing some poly sci paper

It's significantly, significantly harder to write concisely. Page maximums are 10x the bitch page minimums ever were.

Maybe it's still permissible in TTT fields like gender studies. I frankly doubt it though. But then I'm not sitting around reading gender studies journals. I've written in history a fair amount and it is the norm there.

So I'll limit it to my experience and state that good, clear writing with digestible prose is now expected. Anything else and you won't be published and won't be taken seriously.

Speaking of academia, anyone know a good referencing programme that works with Word? Writing out the bibliography ends up taking so much time. Plus anyone know how to reference a piece US legislation under Harvard APA?

History papers are usually significantly different than sociology, cultural antropology, political economics, and ____ studies reports. Factual historians are really a class of scientists with some liberal arts elements intertwined.

If you want to see awkward verbosity, read some physics and chemistry papers. You can discover a bunch of crap with scientific jargon mixed in otherwise elementary linguistics.
