an internal one, yes. i made that distinction. you're bitching about radiohead having some sort of different formula, some meta formula, otherwise you would not be complaining about them being formulaic because every band has their own formula (whatever that word even means at this point). so obviously it's some separate formula, like what radiorock bands use or something. meta formula.

John Cage really sort of brought the idea of variables into music. The result is music both more interesting and less predictable, so I would say that, although he uses a formula, it is infinitely more complex than the one used by Radiohead. Hell, that was the entire point of his compositions.

Still, this thread has proved the article I posted earlier: even suggesting that Radiohead is formulaic gets you attacked by fan boys.
