i don't know that they are formulaic. if they were i wouldn't think that King Of Limbs is absolute trash that should be incinerated while enjoying OK Computer. but as you did mention they did copy previous artists like the beatles. but who hasn't. still, rather quite the same...
also tom yorke is in a band now called Default and there's this song and he chimes in like 30 seconds before any vocals start, just at the begining of the song, with a "Oooooo". it's as to say "tom yorke is in this song". and it's very annoying.
THAT said, sparklehorse and yorke's collaboration to do Wish You Were Here (my favorite Pink Flyod song (ive seen roger waters like 4 times now (im young i couldn't see pink floyd f**k off))) is a better rendition than Pink Flyod's

Why is it unsafe to stand next to a radio talk show host for very long? Because they are radio-active.
