Simple question for anyone who associates with law enforcement: how do police reconcile differences between legality and ethics? It would be easy to reference marijuana, but a lot of police still live in the Dark Ages about that subject so perhaps something a little touchier. What opinion should a police officer hold of Martin Luther King Jr., someone who constantly broke the law?
I'm asking this because I refuse to befriend police officers so I have no one in real life to ask. I've perused some law enforcement forums and read a little about how police (at least the most vocal of them) cut off all ties with friends and family who smoke pot; I really wanted to pose this question about MLK directly to them to see them stumble over their words, but all of the forums are exclusive.
