Where did you work? How did you get here?

So what is your educational and professional background? Most of us are familiar with each other's professions, but I think it would be both interesting and enlightening to see how these prospects developed.

In high school I worked in the regular routine of retail: Kroger and PetSmart. I then in college decided to work as an after school aide for a local school district after my girlfriend at the time recommended it. I had already decided I wanted to be a teacher, so the job seemed reasonable. It also had the perk of $10/hour. After a few months our special ed aide left, and I took the job. That was probably the most stressful experience of my life, but for a college student the pay ($13.00) kept me going back. Meanwhile I took some astronomy classes and fell in love with it. I was a history major at the time, but then I decided to add physics as my second major. I now work as a physics/chemistry teacher for a very well-respected district. I've been thinking about either getting a job as a physical engineer or pursuing a masters in some STEM field, but for now I'm amused. I'm also developing and expanding a small side business. I have a passion for meaningful science education, but the pay just doesn't provide for my evolving desires.

Dream jobs would be:
- Optical engineer. I love optics.
- Principal. Unfortunately, I've witnessed what Assistant Principals have to deal with, so I don't want to start down that road... ugh.
- Science curriculum developer. If I don't pursue engineering, I'll probably move into this field.

Maybe you should try to develop content for science education. Like some kind of educational product on the order of "Hooked on Phonics". (I don't know how effective that program is, but I couldn't think of another example right off hand.) except based on science education. Possibly based on astronomy or astronautics.

There are definitely some very cool possibilities there.

Like most people my age, I have had a bunch of jobs. Arborist, telemarketer, pizza boy, insurance salesman, kitchenware peddler, purveyor of meat (bahaha), general labourer. I have a diploma in business administration. I always knew I would be a farmer, because as the sole boy of the family, I've always felt a strong obligation to carry on the work of my father, grandfather and greatgrandfather.

As a farmer, I do literally everything. It is what I like about it. Suit up, get a major account to expand the market. Weed a garden. Make a pizza. Cut down trees, blow up buildings, burn stuff. Run a retail store. Fix a tractor, change a tire, do small engine repair. Go to tradeshows, run advertising campaigns, make tea. Plow a field, eat lunch, take a shower, and attend a Chamber of Commerce meeting.

I think all of the things I've done have been training for me, in one way or another.

ha ha when I was younger I worked at local herb farm and was like the only guy that worked there. It was awesome, I had a bobcat and two 500 gallon hydroponic systems (basil and mint only lol sorry guys) in green houses as well as about 5 acres of out door beds and got to pretty much run it all myself. Blew some stuff up, built stuff, plowed stuff over with the bobcat, battled rabbit and coyotes etc.

It was freaking cool. The only thing it was missing was your pizza oven. That's the best btw. No farm should be with out one.

I've always wanted to switch to hydroponics, to cut down on waste, and eliminate hours and hours and hours of watering, which I despise.

For some stupid reason, doing so would endanger our organic certification, which is a big selling point in the markets we target.

when i was in my early teens i worked as a sign holder for residential developments and worked with my uncle quite a bit doing tiling. wasn't a fan of high school so graduated at 16, and started working at vons (a safeway company) as a night stocker. also started selling newspaper subscriptions around then, didn't get serious about it until i was 17. went to college for a semester but dropped out cuz it reminded me too much of high school, and didn't jive with my work schedule. did a brief stint in lost prevention at fry's electronics before i discovered petitioning. didnt work at all between the ages of 19 and 20, just blew through my life savings. started petitioning again once i ran out of money and have basically been doing that ever since. not particularly fond of the work, but the money is decent, and i don't have to work year round, so not complaining.
