I think anyone in the British system will agree with me, and given I'm fairly confident its the case in the top 10-20 british universities, we are talking 1000's of engineers being churned out per year atm, who will not be able to find work here.
And through the magic of the internet, will apply to jerbs in freedom land. I know intel used to show up at stuff in our infomatics and engineering department. Though most of the latter lot I know ended up going down London way to work for banks on security stuff.
I think computer stuff, largely because its the newest of the professional degree's is going to be the last labour market to bloat, but bloat it will. Why? University system is COLLOSAL compared to any other point in history and we are talking about highly trained and in all other points of history very rare specialists being created in classes of 300-500 each year by dozens of unquestionably world ranked institutions.
I did my degree because I wanted to get better at philosophy. I was under no illusions, but I think the brakes need to be put on the idea that university is a tool of social mobility and reaching your dreams. NOW, right now. As its helluva cruel. I know a lot of EXTREMELY intelligent, HIGHLY capable 20 somethings who are really struggling with their worlds being shitty and unfair right now.
If I had to pick the worst though, i'd be journalism. Doing a degree in journalism right now is like opening yourself up to a Dickensian nightmare for the next 10 years.
