Brown isn't a sure thing, and nothing about the future is a sure thing in electoral politics, but if Kerry vacated his seat today, Scott Brown would clearly be the the best positioned person in the state to make a run for it.
BTW, if Kerry does end up vacating his seat early next year, I know Deval Patrick gets to appoint someone to fill the vacancy, but do they start to then immediately prepare for a special election, or does that wait until 2014? If it's gonna be another 2 years off then it's really hard to say who would win, but if it's shortly after Kerry vacates then it makes me more convinced Brown is the definite frontrunner for that opening.
